Research
Dr Sutu has a strong clinical research interest.
His particular passion is about research which explores the patient experience. Through his qualitative research, he is able to better understand his patients’ needs, and provide more holistic care.
Outside researching about patient care and experiences, Benjamin’s research interests include multidisciplinary care and connective tissue diseases.
Benjamin has also had experience in recruiting and collecting data for clinical trials.
Benjamin has published manuscripts in medical journals, presented at national and international meetings, and has had posters presented at medical conferences.

Minister for Health's Volunteer of the Year
In 2016, Benjamin Sutu and Julia Gorton won the Minister for Health’s Volunteer of the Year Award for Outstanding Achievements by a Young Volunteer in recognition of their volunteering and advocacy in Music Therapy at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Dr Sutu is a Rheumatologist who is passionate about comprehensive clinical care and equitable access to healthcare. Benjamin completed his specialist training at the Alfred and Royal Melbourne Hospitals, and is passionate about managing all aspects of rheumatic disease. He has experience in managing inflammatory arthritis, musculoskeletal conditions and autoimmune diseases. He actively participates in research about connective tissue diseases, vasculitis, multidisciplinary healthcare and ways to improve patient care outcomes.
Benjamin is also a Clinical Skills Coach/Professional Practice tutor through the University of Melbourne for medical students. He is committed to the well-rounded education of our next generation of healthcare professionals.
Benjamin is currently the Music Therapy Fellow at The Royal Melbourne Hospital. He is an award-winning Music Therapy volunteer for the hospital and regularly contributes to the world-famous RMH Scrub Choir.
Outside of his clinical roles, Benjamin enjoys chronicling his home cooking adventures through photography and creative writing.
